Cycling festival 45th Tartu Rattaralli

Estonia, a small yet dynamic country in Northern Europe, is known for its stunning natural landscapes, digital innovation, and deep-rooted love for sports. What makes Estonia truly special is how seamlessly nature and sport come together, offering the perfect playground for active lifestyles year-round.

Estonia has produced world-class athletes, including Rein Taaramäe, a celebrated professional cyclist and stage winner in both the Vuelta a España and Giro d’Italia. Beyond cycling and skiing, Estonians excel in athletics, rowing, and orienteering – sports that echo the country’s strong connection to nature.

About the event

In the heart of Estonia lies Tartu, the nation’s cultural and intellectual hub – and a hotspot for endurance sports. It’s also home to the Worldloppet Ski Federation’s main office, marking Estonia’s global significance in long-distance skiing. Tartu is the proud host of the Tartu Maraton series, including one of the region’s most beloved cycling events: Tartu Rattaralli.

For over 40 years, Tartu Rattaralli has brought thousands of cyclists to Estonia each year. “This flat and fast race offers smooth roads and open landscapes, making it perfect for both challenge and endurance”, the organizer states.

The 45th Tartu Rattaralli, also known as the Tartu Gran Fondo, will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026. The event program includes several different distances: 26 km, 64 km, and 131 km. The longest distance is also part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series. Riders compete in age categories, and the best earn medals as well as qualification spots for the Amateur World Championships. Cyclists who finish in the top 25% of their age group receive a series medal and an invitation to the World Championships.

The start and finish of the race are located in Tartu, the European Capital of Culture 2024, also known as a university city. The cycling routes run through the beautiful and varied landscapes of Southern Estonia. The weather in June is typically well-suited for cycling, with an average monthly temperature of 15.5°C, and daytime highs can rise above +25°C.

Whether you’re riding in the Rattaralli or cheering from the sidelines, Estonia welcomes every sports traveler with open roads, fresh air, and an unforgettable experience.

The European Capital of Culture

Estonia’s second-largest city, Tartu, is located in Southern Estonia on the banks of the Emajõgi River, about 185 km from Tallinn. With its rich history, Tartu is home to Estonia’s oldest university and, during the Middle Ages, was also part of the Hanseatic League. In 2024, Tartu, together with the Southern Estonia region, held the title of European Capital of Culture.

The city is home to the Estonian National Museum, the uniquely designed Science Centre AHHAA, as well as two different spas and water parks.
