Obertilliach is located 1450 meters above the sea level, in the Lesachtal valley, in the middle of the wonderful Tirol Alps. The valley’s highest alpine village’s history reaches back to more than 750 years.
Today, the alpine village is a valued ski resort, where different ski competitions are organized, both biathlon, and cross country skiing.
The Golzentipp ski resort (2317 m) would delight alpine skiing enthusiasts. Its peak was also the filming location for winter scenes in a James Bond movie in 2015.

About the marathon
Dolomitenlauf is Austria’s biggest ski event, at its core remains the slogan from the very first marathon: “There is a winner in each one of us”.
The multiple day ski event, where the main distances are skied on Saturday and Sunday. First and foremost skate skiing races are planned, for distances 21 km and 42 km, on Sunday the same distances are covered in a classic technique. The races are on separate days meaning passionate skiing fans can participate on both days.
Dolomitenlauf trails are suitable for even those who haven’t covered long distances or participated in ski marathons before. Since 2023, the ski festival also features a separate 5 km race, called the Easy Race, where participants of all ages, from little to adults, are welcome. It’s perfect for those just getting a taste of skiing! The race can be done in both ski techniques on Saturday and Sunday, and for participants up to 15 years old, the mini-marathon is completely free, with a proud medal and diploma as rewards!
For instance, in 2024, our group member, 14-year-old Marian, achieved 3rd place in the 5 km free technique race, and on Sunday, she was the fastest in the classic distance. Youngsters, feel free to join and experience the joy of skiing!
All ski races (both shorter and longer distances) go under the Worldloppet series, so you can add them to your Worldloppet ski passport. This is your chance to keep yourself motivated for many years and gather different visits to international marathons.

The scenic alpine village
The picturesque alpine village of Obertilliach attracts primarily sports enthusiasts and top athletes, as the area’s facilities are ideal for training year-round.
In addition to cross-country ski trails, our accommodation is conveniently located just 500 meters away from the Golzentipp ski resort, which offers 16 km of slopes at various levels and stunning views from 2300 meters in altitude. If you’re planning to visit with children, there’s a dedicated adventure park where they can improve their skiing skills and even practice on various jumps and trick tracks.
In Obertilliach, great attention is paid to nature conservation and sustainable tourism, while still honoring the long tradition of animal husbandry, clean food, and the village’s 750-year history.
European journalists have even titled the Lesachtal valley the ‘Environmentally Friendliest Valley in Europe.’ As you stroll through this idyllic place, you can feel the local peace, quiet, and romance.
Take a part of the ski camp
If you want to make the most of the alpine atmosphere and environment, then you have the chance to participate in a ski camp in the same location. To elevate your ski technique with Sparta´s endurance coach and a former Estonian top skier Raul Olle. This will certainly provide you with confidence and more balanced feeling on skis.
Within the framework of the ski camp, you can still take part in the Dolomitenlauf marathon. Find more info on HERE.
Accommodation and catering
The warm and inviting family hotel Oswalderhof is located in the Obertilliach center and right next to the ski tracks. The hotel is managed by the Obererlacher family, who are also active outdoor enthusiasts and create a homey atmosphere for every guest, introducing and passing on local traditions.
The hotel is freshly renovated and in a great location, in the center of the village. The cross-country ski trails and ski resort are close together, as if you just grab your skis and head straight to the track!
Accommodation is arranged in rooms of two, and the hotel provides breakfast and dinner. There is a separate room for storing ski equipment.
“I enjoyed the marathon – not too many participants, beautiful place. I had never visited any biathlon stadium except for Baltic countries and Finland.
Since I personally do not like overcrowded ski marathons, I recommend this marathon to my friends. Of course I also liked the Obertilliach village, which was very small and adorable,” shared Liisa (2024).
