Marcialonga marathon

The Marcialonga marathon glides through Val di Femme and Val di fassa Valleys, where in 2026 the winter olympics are taking place.

It’s very likely that as a sports enthusiast you have seen the views of the locations on TV – There are many major competitions, in various sports held there. For instance cycling tour Giro d´italia stages and cross country ski MK – stages.

About the marathon

The Marcialonga marathon is considered as one of the most cheerful marathons amongst the Worldloppet series. Majestic Alpine views, with ski trails gliding through villages and the passionate and cheerful locals, is what makes it a unique Italian – style ski party.

The marathon took place for the first time in 1971, when the organizers hoped to get nearly 100 participants at the start. However, to everyone’s surprise, 1,157 skiers crossed the finish line. Under the sign of this popularity, the number of participants has now grown to nearly 8,000.

Both on the trail and along the sidelines / next to the trail, you’ll also encounter local top skiers. For example, one year, Olympic champion and multiple medalist Gabriela Paruzzi handed out sports drinks and encouraging words to everyone.

The Marcialonga ski marathon offers two distance options, 45 km and 70 km in classical technique. Both races are also included in the Worldloppet series, and you can mark them in your Worldloppet ski passport. This gives you the chance to stay active on the ski front for several years and collect visits to various international marathons.

Trail description

The marathon trail glides about 1200 m from above the sea level along side of the Avisio riverbank. With every step you are greeted by UNESCO world- heritage listed Dolomite alps surrounding the valley, italys largest mountain range, with its artistic rck formations.

The main Marcialonga distance, 70 km, runs from the village of Moena to Cavaleze. Marcialonga Light, the 45 km route, starts from the same point, but the finish is in Predazzo. The first 20 km are a gentle uphill, after which there are more descents. The trail features a few steep climbs and curves, but most of it consists of wide, flat sections.

The sweetest ascend, however, comes at the end of the main distance with only 3 km remaining to the finish line. Once this infamous final climb is conquered, you can raise your arms victoriously at the finish line!

“My first trip with Sport Travel. When looking back and thinking in terms of the organisational scale – transportation, accommodation, collecting the marathon materials before the start, moment on – site and everything else, such a service was an extremely positive experience

I got to put my full focus on the competition to all of my other questions the group leaders were fast and responsive. Everything went smoothly,” shared Mart.
